Today, Singaporeans come to expect a parade every National Day. As Singaporeans celebrate their independence by coming together at different parade venues, or even cheering through their television, National Day Parades (NDPs) are always remembered for their precise execution, visual spectacle and the high spirits of everyone involved.

Perhaps not known to many, the efficiency and flawless co-ordination behind each successful NDP are also hallmarks of early parades that featured prominently in colonial Singapore. The lives of British subjects then were just as much touched by parades as those of Singaporeans today.

"Singapore on Parade" revisits Singapore's affair with parades from colonial to modern times and attempts to highlight the significance of parades throughout the different eras. The faces, symbolism and scale of parades may have changed over the decades, but the mood and energy of a people united by a single destiny have remained the drive of parades in Singapore.
