This talk will be conducted in Malay
Professor Hadijah Rahmat will discuss the manuscripts and early Malay books found in the United States (US) and Europe, where there are precious collections on Malay literary culture. These were gathered by Christian missionaries, scholars as well as European and American colonial officers. Learn about Professor Hadijah’s experiences in examining manuscripts and early Malay printings held at institutions such as the Library of Congress (US), Leiden University (Netherlands) and the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom).
Speaker
Hadijah bte Rahmat is the deputy head of the Asian Languages and Cultures Academic Group, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. She is also the head of the Malay Language Council of Singapore and of MASTERA (Majlis Sastera Asia Tenggara) Singapore.
