Malay manuscripts on magic and divination contain fascinating and diverse images. These include illustrations of spirits, human beings and animals, as well as diagrams and talismanic designs for protection, healing and sorcery.

Join Dr Farouk Yahya as he explores the intriguing images found in these books.

Speaker

Farouk Yahya is the Leverhulme Research Assistant (Islamic Art and Culture) at the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford, United Kingdom. His research interests include illustrated and illuminated manuscripts of Southeast Asia, particularly those relating to magic and divination.
